Several notable Democrats are now speaking out against transgender participation in women’s sports.
This sudden about-face has been criticized by LGBT activists and being lauded by conservative groups who are urging more Democrats to fight against the encroachment of transgenderism in society.
One of the most prominent Democrats to come out in opposition to transgenderism is U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY), who said in an interview with the New York Times that Democrats are moving too far left.
“The Democrats have to stop pandering to the far left,” Suozzi said. “I don’t want to discriminate against anybody, but I don’t think biological boys should be playing in girls’ sports.” (Related: Democratic Sen. Bob Casey claims to oppose the participation of transgender athletes in women’s sports, but his record says otherwise.)
Suozzi, who has served for four non-consecutive terms as the representative of New York’s third congressional district, mentioned in an interview with The Hill that he previously supported the Equality Act, a radical bill that, had it been made into law, would have permitted men to enter women’s locker rooms and would erase all differences between the two biological sexes in federal law.
He had already exited Congress when a proposal to ban transgender women and girls from female school sports teams made its way to the House floor, where it eventually passed by a party-line vote before dying in the Senate.
U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) made similar remarks to the New York Times.
“Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face,” Moulton stated. “I have two little girls, I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that.”
He repeated his opinions in another interview and CBS News called his remarks “controversial.”
“I was just speaking authentically as a parent about one of many issues where Democrats are just out of touch with the majority of Americans,” said Moulton. “And I stand by my position, even though I may not have used exactly the right words.”
Moulton, like Suozzi, has voted with most other Democrats to protect transgender rights since his election to Congress in 2015.
Twice, once in 2022 and again in 2023, Moulton co-sponsored House Democrats’ Transgender Bill of Rights, which sought to secure trans athletes the right to join sports teams that match their gender identity.
Other Democrats have fawned and apologized for proposing that supporting males showering in girls’ locker rooms or dominating women’s sports is not a winning plan.
Paul Dupont of the American Principles Project said Democrats who understand the issues of transgender ideology should continue working for political solutions.
Dupont added that President-elect Donald Trump has a “mandate” on these concerns, as the Republican Party controls both houses of Congress and the White House. He also stated that Moulton and Suozzi should oppose the Equality Act.
“They should also do the same for Democrats’ Transgender Bill of Rights legislation, which would entrench the transgender agenda even more explicitly into federal civil rights law,” Dupont told LifeSiteNews. “Then, this coming session, both members could co-sponsor and support the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a bill which passed the House last year with zero Democrat votes.”
